How sweet is this?! Cococo Chocolatiers partnering with Calgary Zoo to raise funds to help protect lemurs in the wild.

Posted: 11/18/2016

Calgary chocolate company continues support for conservation organization with city-wide chocolate bar fundraising initiative.

Cococo Chocolatiers, owners of Chocolaterie Bernard Callebaut® (Cococo) and the Calgary Zoo are excited to unveil their next unique partnership. Together, the two will focus on the Calgary Zoo’s lemur conservation project in Madagascar through sales of a custom-made chocolate bar.

"What better way to support the Calgary Zoo and these amazing primates than with sustainable chocolate?" says Cococo’s Marketing Director Kristen Halpen. "We’re excited to launch this program at the busiest time of year in our shops, and can’t wait to welcome lemurs to the zoo in 2017. Everyone who purchases a bar can feel like they have helped protect lemurs in the wild."

Cococo has designed and produced 56 gram chocolate bars to retail at 11 of their Calgary stores, their Banff location, as well as at the Calgary Zoo. The bars are sold individually at the Calgary Zoo, and as a special gift three-pack at Cococo locations and at the Calgary Zoo. A portion of the proceeds will support the Calgary Zoo’s conservation work in Madagascar helping one of the world’s most endangered primates. Cococo only uses couverture-quality, palm oil free chocolate made with Rainforest Allianceā„¢ Certified cocoa and cocoa butter.

Working with partners, the Calgary Zoo will contribute $100,000 over four years to address key areas to help lemurs and local people. These areas of focus include funding tree nurseries used for reforestation of lemur habitat, supporting long-term lemur population monitoring and improving the livelihoods of local people by creating sustainable job opportunities.

Cococo Chocolatiers, owners of Chocolaterie Bernard Callebaut® and the Calgary Zoo originally united following the 2013 Calgary floods after both were severely impacted. Since then the organizations have worked together annually to promote sustainability, and support for the zoo and its conservation efforts through various events, contests and offers.

The bars retail for $3.95 each or $11.50 for the three-pack.
